New beginnings

Well after spending Christmas and New Year back home in Birmingham it was time to hit the road again on what is going to be a busy, but very exciting 2013. After managing to get out of Heathrow between snow showers, Sydney was my first destination. The New South Wales Open is my first stop on the schedule. You never can expect too much in the first week out, no matter how much practice you do, there’s nothing like finally getting back out on the links with a card in hand. It’s like the first day back at school catching up with all the players and caddies again and rummaging through everyone’s bag to see what new toys everyone is using.

After a rusty opening day, everything gradually got better as the week went on. That’s all I was after for the first week back. Finishing in t46th place had some positive signs for the next few weeks of the Australian swing. After spending a lot of time working hard on my putting I’m starting to see some really positive signs which is always good!! Here’s hoping for more this week.

After finally making it to the Gold Coast (2 cancelled flights later) it was just for a change raining!! Brisbane and the surrounding areas again got hammered by some torrential rains the weekend before the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters. This is my 6th Ladies Masters at Royal Pines and I’ve never seen it dry prior to the event!! Every year the greenkeepers have their work cut out to get the grounds ready for us to go out there and play. Every year they do a great job. This year is no exception with the morning pro am being cancelled due to the course being unplayable. A bit of range practice later and I’m all set for the start of the LET 2013 season. Here’s hoping for a good one…………….

  1. Hi Felicity,

Very interesting blog. I can only imagine what life on the road for you ladies is like! I enjoyed reading about your experiences to start of the new LPGA season. I’ve been on Twitter following you and others on the tour to get a sense of the pre-season buzz! I’ve already learned a couple of things from you! Like “pissing down” means to rain heavily, and “all over the shop” means “to be scattered in a lot of different places”.

I’m all over the shop myself as I am scrambling to put the finishing touches on my website that I’ve created–doing my little part to generate interest in the LPGA and in the amazing players in the LPGA. I’d be honored if you took a look at the LPGA Fantasy Golf site that I created, and pass the word on to your fans. Make sure they have the opportunity to pick you for their team!

  2. My sister also jst got out of Heathrow between the snow & is staying with her daughter, son-in-law & 2 grandsons. She & her husband are hoping to follow you as they did 2 years ago-probably on the last day. Somehow Jim got Harborne open this TUesday. I got a cracking 4 at the 13th (new Odyssey XG putter from Father Christmas) buthadn’t signed the eclectic book! Typical. Play well enough to get on the TV again – they re always very complimentary about you. Ali Nicholas has joined my Zumba class – a food laugh for all !
